New kids on the Block
Private equity shops are fast becoming the new kids on the block(chain) as they seek to widen out their investor base by tokenising their funds. Hamilton Lane, Partners Group and now KKR have all taken the move to launch funds on fintech platforms, signalling that this exclusive, hard to access asset class, is fast embracing democratisation. And could, if successful, provide a crucial link for retail investors keen to gain exposure to private markets. Much will depend on the technology’s ability to handle smaller, more frequent capital calls. But assuming blockchain rises to the challenge, private equity could soon find it has a number one hit on its hands #topoftheblocks

Golazo! Private equity hopes to score deal screamer
A quartet of private equity firms are hoping to orchestrate a fresh bid to invest in the media rights of Serie A, Italy’s top flight football league. The squad of investors includes Carlyle Group, Apax Partners, Three Hills Capital Partners and Searchlight Capital. They’ll be hoping their preliminary bid proposal hits the back of the net with Serie A’s chiefs and leads to goalmouth celebrations and cheers of “Golazo”, given that a separate EUR1.7 billion bid last year led by CVC Capital ended with a red card. Watch closely over the coming weeks to see if this latest consortium succeeds with its Italian Job application.
